This fine example of a 1970 Firebird is going to go through some big changes. Throttle Works will install a 5.3L LS motor with single turbo and a built turbo 400 transmission. It is also receiving some special treatment out back too, a new 9" with 3:73 gears and a Caltrax leaf spring suspension set up to get the new 10x30 Hoosier slicks to hook up and get this car down the track fast and safe, well as safe as can be anyway. Along with this new found power and traction some driver protection is required so a 6 point roll cage to meet NHRA specs for a 10.0 second cars will be added as well, custom built in house to suit our customers desires for safety and also some measure of comfort for street driving, since who doesn't want to drive a 10 second car on the street. Check out the pictures below for more progress and updates!!!

With some of the basics now handled in the engine bay and the rear end it's time to move on to the interior. Some racing seats are in order first, getting the general position for them will allow us to move on to the next step of roll bar design. Inherent to these cars is seating position being pretty high so as you will see in some later pictures we did some custom modifications to the floor to get the seats to sit as low as possible and still have slider for some adjust ability. This car is not just for one person to drive, our customer also takes his kids out to the track to play so some movement is necessary.

The next few images are from the floor modification. If you are familiar with these cars you know that there is a "bump" in the floor under both seats that will not allow the seat to sit very low. The reason for this bump is the excessively long body mount bolt from the front subframe. So this is how we are dealing with this....
